Today we have annouced two important releases from the RD@Essex team. These outputs are the culmination of our data repository development work at the University of Essex over the past year.
1. Essex Research Data repository - JISC MRD community beta
We have set up a test instance of the University of Essex research data repository, built using an in-house customised version of the EPrints software package, for the JISC Managing Research Community to explore.
We would encourage anyone interested in trying it out to get in touch - tensom[at]essex.ac.uk) - and we will provide you with a guest account. Your feedback is valuable at this stage in development. Be aware though, that we are still in beta, and as such you may experience bugs or other quirks. Please report anything you notice directly to me.
2. Research Data @Essex Metadata Profile
Using metadata schema relevant to UK Higher Education and research data (DataCite, INSPIRE and DDI 2.1), we have developed a basic metadata profile suited to describing the huge variety of research data generated at institutions with disciplinary diversity. The inclusion of some key fields, like Funder and Grant number will ensure that future harvesting and linking opportunities (like RCUK Research Outcome Systems) can locate funded research data assets. The metadata also suits the EPSRC data registry requirements.

This reflects the metadata which our live repository beta is using.
